We are all here for
the mission; saving lives and ending breast cancer forever guides what we do
each and every day at Komen Minnesota. For us, the women we serve are our
highest priority in everything we do. Our local needs assessment is the primary
driver of the Minnesota Affiliate’s funding decisions and community
Locally incorporated, Susan G. Komen Minnesota raises funds through events like the Twin Cities and Brainerd Lakes Race for the Cure. Seventy-five percent of the money raised by the local Affiliate stays in Minnesota to fund life-saving programs that create access to breast cancer screening and treatment. The remaining twenty-five percent funds research on a national level, some of which supports breast cancer research right here in Minnesota at the University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic.
For almost two
decades, our Affiliate has partnered with the Minnesota Department of Health’s
Sage Screening Program to fund screening programs that provide free mammograms
to uninsured and underinsured women in all 87 counties of Minnesota. Last year
alone, our Affiliate funded breast cancer screening and diagnostic services for
more than 9,000 women. Specifically, we funded more than 3,300 mammograms,
6,000 computer-aided detection readings, 100 breast biopsies, and 300
