Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What’s new regarding fundraising this year?
A: We’re excited about the wonderful new selection of incentive prizes for our individual fundraisers. Participants who raise more than $100, will be eligible to select a prize of their choice! Check out the Friends for the Cure section on our website and set a goal to earn the prize that catches your eye!
Q: I’d love to earn a fundraising prize and support Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s mission at the same time, but have a hard time asking people for money. Can you help?
A: YES! We have lots of ideas. And, we have a fundraising tool (a scratch off card) to help you raise $250 in a fun and easy way. Feel free to call us at 952-746-1760 if you’d like us to share more ideas with you or if you’d like a card.
Q: What is the registration fee?
A: Fees until Saturday, February 29th: Adults-$25, Children age 12 & under-$12
Fees from March 1 to Saturday, April 21: Adults-$30, Children age 12 & under-$15
Fees from April 22 to Saturday, May 12: Aduts-$35, Children age 12 & under-$17
Fees on Race Day, Sunday, May 13: Adults-$40, Children age 12 & under-$20
Q: How do I register?
A: The easiest way to register is online. Go to www.komenminnesota.org. Note that online registration (for individuals NOT participating on a Team) is open until 10PM CST on Tuesday, May 8th . If you wish to participate as a Team member, you must register by 10PM CST on April 30. You may also register by downloading a registration form from our website or picking up a form at a participating Caribou Coffee, ReMax Realty, or Regis Salon locations, or the Shop for the Cure kiosk at Mall of America.
Q: The Race for the Cure is at the Mall of America in Bloomington. Can I register there?
A: Yes, beginning Monday, April 9, you may register at our Shop for the Cure® kiosk, located in the Rotunda, level 1, between Sears and Bloomingdale’s. (If you want to be on a team, your registration must be completed online by April 30 or mailed in by your team captain by April 21st). If you prefer to register as an individual participant AND pick up your race T-shirt at the same time, you may also register on Race weekend-Friday, May 11, Saturday, May 12, or Race Day, May 13. If you're on a team, your Team Captain must pick up your materials.
Q: Do I need to register my daughter, even though she is just 2 years old?
A: Yes, everyone who is on the race grounds MUST be registered, regardless of age. Remember, your registration fees help us on our mission. Registered participants will receive a wristband when they pick up their Race materials this year. All participants MUST register and wear their wristband on Race Day in order to fully participate in the event and enter our new, expanded Health Expo location.
Q: I’m going to be out of town on May 13th so I will be unable to attend the Race. Can I still get a T-shirt?
A: Yes, you can register as a “Sleep In for the Cure” participant. That event is for all who would like to show their support, but are unable to join us on Race Day. Your friend, family member, or Team Captain can pick up your T-shirt for you. Even better, you can still fundraise and be eligible for our new and exciting incentive gifts.
Q: If I want to be part of a team, what do I have to do differently from those that want to participate as individuals?
A: First, your Team Captain must set up your team online. Once the team is created, team members must register online by April 30th for that specific team, or have their Team Captain submit all of the team member’s offline registration forms together to our Race Office by April 21. Team registrations should be mailed to the following address: Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Mall of America, 301 South Avenue, Bloomington, MN 55425. Again, offline Team registrations must be postmarked by April 21st. Online team member registration closes April 30, 2012.
Q: I wanted to be part of a team but missed the April 21st postmark and the April 30th online deadlines. What happens now?
A: You can still register but instead you'll be an "individual" registrant. You can still walk with the team you had wanted to register with; the only difference is that your team captain won’t be able to get your T-shirt, bib and wristband in the Team Packet pick up area. You will need to pick up your T-shirt, bib and wristband from the Individual Registration and Packet Pick up in Mall of America’s Rotunda, 1st floor, between Sears and Bloomingdale’s, between Friday, May 11 and Sunday, May 13.
Q: When can I pick up my Race T-shirt, bib and wristband?
A: If you registered as an Individual, you may pick up your Race T-shirt, bib and wristband on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12, between 10AM-8PM or on Race Day, Sunday, May 13, between 6AM-9:30AM in the Mall of America’s Rotunda, 1st floor, between Sears and Bloomingdale’s.
If you registered as a Team Member (teams consist of 10 or more members), your Team Captain will pick up all of your items and distribute them to you. Team Pick up is on the 1st floor of Mall of America, in MACY’S court. Pick up for Team Captains is on Wednesday, May 9, Thursday, May 10 between 12PM-8PM, on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12 between 10AM-8PM and on Race Day between 6AM and 9:30 AM. Please note that you will NOT be able to pick up your own T-shirt, bib and wristband if you registered as part of a team.
Q: Can I pick up a T-shirt, bib and wristband for a friend or family member?
A: Yes, you may pick up other participants’ T-shirts, bibs, and wristbands as long as they have remembered to sign their Race Registration waiver. (Online registrants automatically sign their waiver.) You will need to know their T-shirt size too.
Q: I registered as part of a team, but I haven’t received my T-shirt, bib and wristband. What should I do?
A: Contact your Team Captain. He or she is responsible for picking up your items and distributing them to you.
Q: Where should I plan to meet my Team?
A: Inside or outside-the choice is yours! Team Captains generally coordinate the meeting area with their team members. The North parking lot, between Sears and Nordstrom's, is designated as our new Team meeting area. However, the Mall of America is open on Race Day and has four floors available for inside meeting. We would suggest you avoid the Sears, Nordstrom, and Macy’s courts, as well as the Rotunda on level one, since there will already be a lot of activity in those areas.
Q: Where does the 5K race start and end?
A: The 5K Race and 5K Walk start on 24th Avenue, between Lindau Lane and American Boulevard and end at the intersection of Old Shakopee Road and Killebrew Drive.
Q: Where does the 1K walk start?
A: The 1K walk is held inside Mall of America, on the 2nd floor. It starts near Sears.
Q: Can I bring a pet?
A: Sorry; pets are not allowed at the Race.
Q: Can I bring a jogger?
A: For the safety of the participants in the 5K run, these are not allowed in that event. You may use them in the 5K Walk and 1K Walk only.
Q: Can I bring a stroller?
A: Yes, but please be courteous of the participants immediately in your path. You may use them in the 5K Walk and 1K Walk only.
Q: Can I wear in-line skates?
A: No, for the safety of all participants, in-line skates and skateboards are not allowed at this event.
Q: Where can I park?
A: The Mall of America has ample parking for all participants. Please allow plenty of time to park so you can fully enjoy your Race Day experience. We also encourage the use of Light Rail.
Q: Are there roads closed for the Race?
A: Yes, some city streets are closed around the Mall of America. However, the Bloomington Police is onsite and directs those coming to the event to the parking facilities. You should just plan to drive to the Mall of America as you normally would and you will be directed to parking accordingly. Light Rail drops off directly at the Mall of America.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: This event will occur rain or shine. We reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, there will be no refunds. Instead, your entry fee will be used as a donation to the Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure®.
